It used to be that taxpayers would file an extension by April 15th, and then a second extension by August 15th. Why? Because the first extension was good to extend the filing deadline by four months, and the second extension would request an additional two months to file. But starting with the 2006 filing season, the IRS made life a little easier for taxpayers and their accountants, and made the first extension good for six months. So if you are worried about an August 15th deadline, you can relax. Your next filing deadline is October 15, 2007.
No Need to File a Second Extension
